"The Princess of Wales Conservatory" - Print
“Princess of Wales Conservatory" illustrates Kew Garden’s Princess of Wales Conservatory, which houses non-woody temperate and tropical plants at Kew.
This glass house has 10 different climate zones, placing the warmer zones at the centre and cooler ones towards the edges. This painting centres on the wet tropical zone, which features the amazing giant waterlily’s, Victoria amazonica, which can reach up to 2.8 metres wide and are grown from seed each year at Kew.
I was inspired by the multiplicity of things that were happening in this painting. From the lily pads, the vines, the leaves of all of the different plants and trees throughout this painting, the reflections in the water, and the windows of the glasshouse.
I was very excited about the many elements and small details to paint and knew it was going to be an exciting challenge. This painting was a keystone in my art career, in 2021 it had the great honour of winning the Leathersellers’ Prize for best artist under 30, from The Worshipful Company of Leathersellers at the Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours 209th Annual Exhibition in London.
I hope that the exciting plethora of details and colours in this painting inspire you to add it to your collection.
