From Kew's Palm House Balcony - Original Painting
The British Horticulture Series Collection: “From Kew’s Palm House Balcony"
“From Kew’s Palm House Balcony" illuminates the view looking down one of the flanking wings of the Glasshouse from the raised galleried walkways (aka the balcony) in Kew Garden’s Palm House.
On my trip to London in 2018 I spent a whole day at Kew Garden’s, and the Palm House holds my heart to this day. Housing tropical and sub-tropical plants from the depths of the rainforest, around every corner I was stunned by magnificent grand plants. With the morning light pouring through the windows, and the mist heavy in the air. Walking down the pathways of the Palm house was breathtaking.
This perspective of being on the same level as the tree tops is amazing and rare. Typically we only ever get to experience down below the rainforest canopy, where it is mysterious, and shaded. The fantastical view of looking down through the plants from above gives the sense of being bigger and taller in the jungle than you really are.
I hope that this exciting cloud of foliage entices you to add it to your art collection.
Created as a part of the British Horticulture Series. Learn more about this series, its inspiration, and sentiments that rooted my process, HERE.
This piece makes a wonderful diptych when paired with my “South Kensington Morning” painting, which I worked on simultaneously with “From Kew’s Palm House Balcony”. Together they sing and balance each other.
You can collect “South Kensington Morning” HERE.
A watercolour painting, 2019. Watercolour and gouache on cold press watercolour paper, in an elegant white frame and mat. 17’’ x 21’’.
