Calgary Parks Series
Calgary’s parklands have story-like atmospheres that inspire a sense of fantasy which are evocative of settings in well-known novels and plays for me. The Calgary Parks series is about being a child again and seeing Calgary through the lens of a literary work or as a setting for a novel. For example - A bridge in Confederation Park that elicits the Pooh Sticks Bridge in The House on Pooh Corner (1928) by A.A. Milne; the Bowness Park lagoon which is the perfect riverbank for a picnicking feast as described in The Wind in the Willows (1908) by Kenneth Grahame; and the romance of the Jerry Shaw memorial garden emulates Paris as illustrated in Ludwig Bemelmans Madeline (1939).
